All Drama Students - Ideas about Drama

"Drama is a subject for growth."
What are your thoughts on this topic?

Here are some thoughts from the April 2020 Summit

Cate Blanchett said creativity was central to all human endeavour. "By 2020 we want to be celebrating the fact that creativity is central to sustaining and defining the nation," she said.

"CREATIVITY is at the heart of every successful nation. It finds expression in great visual art, wonderful music, fabulous performances, stunning writing, gritty new productions and countless other media. Giving form to our innate human creativity is what defines us to ourselves and the world."

"The arts connect with every other sector of the economy and with each of us individually. We already know that creativity is the spark that drives the best research scientists and the cleverest thinkers in fields well removed from those we may think of as creative — teaching, policy, economics and community development."

"Creativity and the arts are as elemental to that future as they are to the past. They are a link between us all and an expression of our differences."

- Cate Blanchett and Julianne Schultz, co-chairs of the Creative Australia Stream, 2020 Summit.

Drama is a great expression of yourself and it is a great way to discover who you are.
Cate is 100% right. The arts are understated these days, refered to as 'bludge' subjects, when little do people realise that they are educational, a challenge and BONUS, fun (:
Being creative shouldn't be hidden.
You could find yourself changing someones life with a beautiful piece of writing, dazzling artwork or even a stunning performance.

Wow, I completely agree with Sanela! I really think her comment was well thought out and insightful.

That is one thing that really isn't true. As a typified 'drama student', when people see you skipping down the path to drama they automatically think 'she must be having fun because she's off to a bludge subject where all they do is lounge around'. Hmmm, to all those people, you are wrong! Sure, Drama is incredibly fun, that's why it's the highlight of the day, and just walking down to that side of the school makes me happy, but drama is more than just fun. It's hard work, and requires insightful thinking, intelligent analyzing and great understanding of the English language.

So to anyone who ever tries to call it a bludge, I'd like to see you take the course and get up in front of people and act.

I second what Ashlei and Sunny said!
Of course drama is a fun subject and for many of us it is the highlight of our school days, but it really is so much more than a good time!
Drama has hugely expanded my self confidence, and taught me a range of skills that have helped me in a variety of other subjects as well.
I agree with the statement drama is a subject for growth and development. It is an excellent form of self expression :)

I agree with everyone!

Drama is definately a subject for growth. Drama is definately a subject which i have grown in so many ways i never thought was possible. The whole idea portrayed that drama is simply getting up on stage and reading a script is so embarrasingly wrong to whoever thinks so. Drama is a subject that you can both have an enomous amount of fun as well as learn skills for life.

Drama opens you up to looking at things in a different perspective and to just put your self into the moment.

Drama is definately a subject that i am passionate about and which i look forward to going to every day.
