Mary MacKillop College Drama students in Year 11 were very fortunate in being given the opportunity to have Aboriginal playwright and black activist SAM WATSON as a guest in their classroom to talk to them during one of their scheduled Drama lessons. Sam, notably famous for his play "Oodgeroo"about famous Aboriginal poet, Oodgeroo, (Aunty Kath Walker) was able to assist students in their knowledge of Aboriginal history and also the importance of the Indigenous Arts and drama scenes for Aboriginal people.

Year 10 Children's Theatre

The Year Ten Drama class is this first term busy practising the skills of performance for children's theatre, and the girls have recently completed the task of presenting their choice of one of Roald Dahl's 'twisted fairy tales' using the conventions of theatre for children. Much fun was had 'costuming' the characters appropriately, ready for performance! (see sample pics). The drama students gave their own interpretations of "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Cinderella" and "Snow White".... enjoying the experience of performing their twisted tales for their peers and a handful of Mums and younger siblings.

Theatre@ La Boite

According to the publicity from La Boite Theatre Company, their production of William Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" directed by David Berthold was going to be "contemporary, electrifying and illuminating"! According to the Years 10, 11 and 12 Drama students who attended a Tuesday evening performance at the Roundhouse Theatre at Kelvin Grove, the production definitely lived up to its publicity! The girls enjoyed their theatrical experience immensely, with many of them securing tickets to see the performance again!
