I really liked the performance of "The White Earth" and highly recommend it to anyone in the general public, especially those theatre lovers. The use of lighting, sound effects and stage design is what really captivated me. The use of lighting really helped add to the mood of the scene, characters and even the picturing of events that were occurring but not physically seen. The sound effects also were fan-tastic and in conjunction with the clips playing in the background, aren't recommended for the faint hearted... especially when a bunyip comes screaming at you :D. I also found the use of the stage set out interesting in the sense how everything was together, but separated by single spot-lighting a part of the stage being used. Overall, it was an extremely entertaining performance that i wouldn't of missed for the world ^_____^
I have to agree with Zjana with the way lighting, sound effects and stage design was used. It really captivated you into the performance and built up the tension. What also made "The White Earth" performance amazing was the focus of the actors. The focus was switched on for each actor until they were completely off the set. You could really feel that they were grounded and wouldn't let 'whoever's phone' went off distract them. I was really shocked when Stacy (William) told us she was 37. To play an 8-9 year old and pull it off convincingly is an achievement. Overall it was an suspenseful entertaining performance that I would definitely recommend.
'The White Earth' was the first La Boite production I have seen so far, and it completely blew me out of the water.
What I loved the most about the play was the set design and the use of multimedia throughout the performance. Especially when the fallen explorer came out of the waterhole... now that was really creepy! I also liked how the ending was open for interpretation.
The actors should be commended on their efforts, and I encourage others to see this BRILLIANT performance.
I don't think any amount of words will fully encapsulate the immense emotional journey this play will take you on. From its reverence regarding family, to the spiritual aspects so tightly interwoven into the script, The White Earth is a rich, colourful play that will leave you thinking about it for days.
My only word of advice is be prepared if you sit in the front row, the tension on stage is so immense it tends to spill over into the first few rows of seats and it can be quite a shock for anyone who is not prepared. All in all ... Definitely worth seeing!!
The White Earth was the first production i have been to and I thought that it was just wow! I mean it was amazing, I absolutley loved every moment of it.
The lighting, sound and set design was all very well done, it really built the tension.
It was a great experience for my first time and it was the BEST experience :D
The White Earth ... once again an amazing production by La Boite :)
The performance was captivating, from the beginning to the end. Rich in tension, it conveyed a little more than slightly dysfunctional family so realistically. I felt that the performance was mesmeric and raw, exactly what I'm looking for in a piece of theatre. It explored the enigma of the darker side of the human psyche which I think we all found extremely interesting!
Unfortunately The White Earth cast has officially had their last performance now, but I know we're all looking forward to the rest of the La Boite season.
The performance was fantastic, I loved it! There was so much to take in from a dramatic tension to the relationships between the characters. i absolutely loved the stage design it suited the play fantastically. The actors were amazing they played the characters so well and Stacy who played William the young boy absolutely amazing for a 37 year old to play a young boy it was amazing to see.
