During the
course of this Semester, the Year 10
Drama students have been undertaking a unit of work on Children’s Theatre: conventions, techniques and practice.
As a
culmination of their study, the girls formed groups to devise their own small
plays designed specifically for the target audience of young children. Once
their scripts were written, the students then worked on producing their plays
for an intended audience of Year One children. The Drama class then set about
blocking, rehearsing and polishing their productions ready for a real live
performance!
So on Monday,
May 26th, the productions of Children’s Theatre were performed for
Year One pupils from St Joseph’s Primary
School (Nundah) and St Mary of the
Cross (Wilston) here at Mary
MacKillop College. The characters ranged from Pirates to Princesses, Lions
to Elephants, each play delighting the little audience members, eliciting
shrieks of laughter and joy as the young children immersed themselves in the
dramatic action and the world of their imaginations.
The
experience was one that the Year 10’s will never forget: creating and shaping a
dramatic performance *from the page to the stage* and enjoying the pleasure of
the beaming smiles on the faces of little people in the audience.
