A few weeks ago Alyssa and I saw 'A Streetcar Named Desire', a production of Qld Ballet Company. I'd never really liked ballet and my thoughts were I was going to see pink tutus and prancing. What I actually saw was a masterpiece. As there was no dialogue, the movements and how each character portrayed their sub-text had to be influential. Each dancer did this exactly and whilst also being a dancer, they were actors as well. One of my favourite moments was when the shadows came from behind Blanche. Instead of having the shadows following straight away, they followed in a few seconds building a creepy feel and tension. The set design was also outstanding. As each act had to continuously flow, the use of having a doubled side set and little as possible still was effective. Seeing 'A Streetcar Named Desire' was definitely a different experience to my usual productions I've seen but definitely one I won't forget.
