“ ‘The Secret River’ is a play that will settle into the
Australian theatrical canon and remain there for a very long time”.
Sprawling, profound, and often unsettling, the play (adapted by the novel of
the same title by Kate Grenville) is about a 19th century Englishman
transported to Australia for theft, and “the
resettlement of Australia that set into motions hundreds of years of systemic
Aboriginal oppression and abuse”.
This production brought to QPAC by the Sydney Theatre Company and
directed by Neil Armfield puts history into perspective, changes people’s
consciousness and creates an emotional impact.
All of this was well and truly experienced by the Drama students who attended the production!

On Tuesday,
March 1, the Years 11 and 12 Senior Drama students together with some lucky
Junior Drama students viewed “The Secret River” and came away
‘changed’. Not only was the professional quality of the theatrical production
superb, but the emotional truth of this story of miscommunication and cultural
war was profound and eye-opening.
All Drama
students and accompanying teachers agreed that this was among the best and most
powerful, challenging pieces of theatre that they have viewed!
Congratulations
(as always!) to our students on their behaviour and respectful attendance at
this public performance!
